Riveting Of A Truck Part
Posted on 09/11/2017 | by The Orbitform Blog Team
A manufacturer of commercial vehicle suspension, lifting, and coupling products was looking to securely rivet a coupling assembly together that included a 5/8-inch diameter solid metal rivet. The rivet needed to be formed to a specific finished head diameter while also allowing the components to rotate freely following the orbital forming process. Orbitform’s applications engineers designed a special part holding fixture that allowed the rivet to be formed to the required depth and diameter. The team used an Orbitform 840 model orbital forming powerhead equipped with a load cell and a LVDT to conduct the process monitoring of the formed rivet.
The customer was satisfied with the quick turn-around time and with the quality sample parts Orbitform processed in the laboratory prior to designing and building a complete assembly machine for the customer’s manufacturing facility.
