Factory Remanufactured Machines - A Cost Effective Solution

Assembly manufacturers are not immune to budget restrictions when it comes time to purchase capital equipment. Sometimes, restraints are put in place to maximize the return on investment. Other times, it can be caused by a slowdown in intake or production. In todays’ current climate, it is becoming increasingly common for manufacturers to search for more cost-effective assembly solutions.

To help manufacturers searching for more economical assembly equipment, Orbitform offers Factory Remanufactured Machines (FRMs) for our impact and orbital product lines. We keep a small inventory of previously owned riveters and powerheads in our facility, often purchased back from customers who are no longer using the equipment. When companies have a tight budget, we can provide an FRM from our inventory or take in their previously purchased equipment and rebuild it to our FRM standards.

Every FRM is held to the same standard as new equipment. They are fully disassembled, thoroughly evaluated, and any part that is damaged or less than reliably functional is replaced with a new part. Each machine also includes new tooling designed to meet the functional requirements for the assembly application. The riveter is then reassembled, repainted, and tested to ensure its functionality, and is backed by our standard 1-year warranty.

In 2018, a sporting goods manufacturer turned to Orbitform to replace multiple impact riveters. The challenge with their existing equipment was frequent downtime and rework required for their parts after assembly. We worked with their engineers to maximize their return on investment while improving their assembly process. Over the next two years, we provided 25 FRM impact riveters and offered trade-in credit for their existing equipment. With the FRM equipment, they saw a reduction in their downtime, maintenance, and the amount of rework they had to do. This also maximized their return-on-investment and added to our FRM inventory for future customers.

Many outside forces can affect budget decisions, which can sometimes lead to restrictions when purchasing capital equipment. Orbitform’s FRM options provide a “better-than-used” solution that is held to the same standards as new. Contact us today to discuss the right solution to meet your application requirements and budget.

More and more manufacturing is moving to verifying critical functional features 100% in process. The reasons for this growth in checking every part include customer requirements, savings associated with the cost of quality defects, and/or a desire to produce a more consistent and higher quality part. The rotating torque on a pivoting joint assembly often falls into this category of critical functional features that require in-process verification.
